I left willingly, sitting silently in the back seat of the sedan as Alfred slowly made his way back home. I couldn’t tell if he was driving slowly because he was giving me a chance to collect myself, or if he was just old, but it only made the drive that much more painful. The apprehension of what would happen when we returned. The media outside the gate was gone, a sign that Drake had something special prepared.

My stomach wrenched in agony as the house gradually loomed before us. Another one of Drake’s bodyguards met me at the front entrance, gripping my arm and dragging me inside, where Drake paced the front entrance with several other bodyguards.

As soon as he saw me, his hand whipped out, slamming across my face. Pain exploded through my jaw as my head snapped back.

“You made a fucking mess at the hotel. The money for the magic it’s going to take to make reparations and erase people’s memories is coming out of your funds.”

Pain throbbed through my jaw but I just stared at him blankly, not caring. What good did my money do if I couldn’t use it to get out of his clutches? I silently wondered if I should’ve offered to pay Carrie an obscene amount of money to go to the Queen immediately. Concoct a story, plant evidence against my dad, get down on my knees and beg — whatever it took to get her to convince the Queen to help me.

Even if Carrie had taken the money, proving that she was no different than any other bitch around her, at least I’d be free.

But I’d thought I could have her and my freedom too; she promised to fight for me.

I was wrong.

And yet, I couldn’t stop the ripping apart happening in my chest. My dragon was furious and clawing at me. He didn’t give a fuck what was going on in my life right now. Only that Carrie wasn’t with me. He wanted me to go chasing after her, pin her down, fuck her again, claim her.

Pain exploded across my back and I fell to my knees, snapping out of my thoughts.

“Are you fucking listening to me?” Drake was screaming, towering over me, a bat in his hands now. The smell of the poison lining it made my stomach lurch. I rolled across the floor, groaning. He hit me again, shattering the second knuckle to my fingers. “Do you understand what you need to do?”

Shock rolled through me, I couldn’t even feel the pain making me unable to flex my fingers. He attacked my legs, my stomach, pounding the metal bat into my body like a punching bag. I rolled onto my stomach to try and protect my sensitive parts. Agony wracked my body, my mind still reeling from Carrie’s betrayal. My heart pounded, my skin crawled as Drake punished me for my insurrection.

He was going to kill me, as soon as he tied up loose ends.

I knew it.

He’d always told me that if I didn’t obey, he would end my life.
